A native of Devon, England, long-time Pittsburgh resident Kathleen Short served as a member of the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF) during WWII. While on leave, Kathleen met Maurice at a dance.
An American soldier, Maurice proved his persistence by acquiring Kathleen’s address from her sister and expressing his devotion via post. In a borrowed dress and shoes, in her home, surrounded by her family, Kathleen and Maurice were married in 1945, just months after the war ended.
