Historic Sound: Industrial Beaver County
On episode 19 of the Little Beaver Historical Society Podcast, we talk with Dr. Aaron Cowan, professor of history at Slippery Rock University, about the historical significance of sound, public history, and why local historians should capture and preserve our aural heritage.
Dr. Cowan is founder and director of SRU’s Stone House Center for Public Humanities, an initiative that seeks to build partnerships between university and community that expand public appreciation of the humanities. He is also the author of A Nice Place to Visit: Tourism and Urban Revitalization in the Postwar Rustbelt, a look at how “rustbelt” cities adapted to urban decline and struggled to meet the challenge of becoming appealing places to visit, as well as good and just communities in which to live.
The Little Beaver Historical Society Podcast features stories and news about the Little Beaver Historical Society and local history of northern Beaver County, Pennsylvania. The Little Beaver Historical Society is a non-profit organization located in Darlington, Pa. The Society maintains three museums, an authentic log cabin, and working forge.
